Trastevere is a district on the west bank of the Tiber. It became a part
of Rome under Aurelian (250-275), by building the protecting city walls
around Trastevere and the Vatican Hill. Julius Caesar had a garden villa
in this area, called the Horti Caesaris. Nowadays it is home to many
restaurants and pubs and visited by both tourists as well as natives.
Certainly worth a visit!
