The
Capitoline Hill is one of the seven hills of Rome. It used to be the
site of a temple for the Capitoline Triad. During the 16th century
Michelangelo designed a new square, for the planned visit of Charles V,
wich became the Piazza del Campidoglio. The new square featured a
redesign of the Palazzo Senatorio and a new building, the Palazzo Nuovo.
Construction started in 1546 and was completed in 1564.
