The National Museum
is the largest and oldest museum in the Czech Republic, founded in 1818.
Its collection consists of more than 14 million items in the areas of
mineralogy, paleontology, mycology, botany, entomology, zoology,
anthropology, and archaeology. The main museum building is located on
the upper end of Wenceslas Square and was built by architect Josef
Schulz from 1885 - 1891.
