When you arrive in Paris one of the first monuments you will see is
Sacré-Coeur of Montmartre. The Basilica of the 'Sacred Heart' is located
at the top of Montmartre, the highest point of Paris. The Roman Catholic
church was completed in 1914 and designed by architect Paul Abadie. The
work was financed by gifts, often modest, from all over France. The
names of the donors are carved in the stone. Trivia: the tower contains
the "Savoyarde" a 19 tons bell. |
