The Novodevichy Convent is a historical Russian Orthodox convent in Moscow. It was founded in 1524 by Grand Duke Vasily III to celebrate the recapture of Smolensk from the Lithuanians. The convent is also famous for its New Cemetery, which is the most prestigious in Moscow and the final resting place for a number of important figures, including Chekhov and Shostakovich.
