Avila is an impressive walled city, which can be easily visited during a daytrip. The city is most known for its medieval city walls, constructed around 1100 and consisting of 88 towers and 9 gateways. The city, as well as its churches, was recognized by UNESCO in 1985 as a World Heritage site.
