The 'Catedral de Santa Maria la Real de la Almudena' is a relatively new church, completed in 1993 after construction started more than 100 years ago in 1883. It was consecrated by Pope John Paul II. The building features a mixture of a neoclassical exterior and a gothic interior. It is situated next to the Royal Palace.
