Surrounded by guild houses and the city's town hall, the breathtaking
Grand Place (or 'Grote Markt') is the most memorable landmark in
Brussels and a major tourist attraction. The city's town hall was built
between 1402 and 1455 and features a 97 meter tall gothic tower, with on
top a statue of St. Michael, the patron of Brussels. In 1998 the UNESCO
named the Grand Place a World Heritage Site.
