Cape Sounion (70 km south east of Athens) is the site of ruins of an
ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea in classical
mythology. It was constructed in 440 BC and built atop the ruins of a
previous temple. Cape Sounion is a popular destination, not only because
of the temple of Poseidon, but also because several great Greece beaches
can be accessed along the route from Athens.
